Dr. Antoni Rosell

Pulmonologist (1992), PhD in Medicine (2000), Diploma in Biostatistics (2004), European Certification in Respiratory Medicine (HERMES) (2009), and Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2021), he has held the position of Chief of Respiratory Endoscopy Unit of the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge (Barcelona) between 2005 and 2018. Since then, he has been the Clinical Director of the Thoracic Institute of ​​the Hospital Universitari of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital (Barcelona).

He has been the introducer in Spain of the endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), the autofluorescence bronchoscopy, the valves for prolonged air leak, and the non-electromagnetic navigation system (Archimedes©). He is a referral for interventional bronchoscopy, specifically rigid bronchoscopy and stenting. He has directed simulation courses in EBUS and participated as a faculty in different national and international simulation courses, mainly on rigid bronchoscopy. Since 2019, he is the director of the wet-lab courses on pulmonary non-electromagnetic navigation (Archimedes©).

He leads the Translational Pulmonology Research Group of the Germans Trias Research Institute (IGTP). He has been a member of a respiratory research network depending on the Spanish Minister of  Science and Innovation (2004-2020). He is the vice president of the Barcelona Respiratory Network (BRN). He has made short stages in international hospitals and research centres (Amsterdam, Heidelberg, Lille and Vancouver) between 1998 and 2013, learning autofluorescence, EBUS, rigid bronchoscopy and lung cancer screening programs.

He is a reviewer of research projects of the Spanish Ministry of Health (Carlos III Institute), various public health agencies and international journals. He published 22 articles in Q1, with an index in Research Gate of 38.08 h-Index of 16. He is the co-author of 3 patents, in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Institut Químic de Sarrià, as well as co-founder of the spin-off Adbroncus (2011), Tractivus (2015) and Breaz (2022). He has been the Principal Investigator of 6 competitive national projects in the last ten years in collaboration with biologists (Institut d’Investigació de Bellvitge), engineers (Universitat Politècnia de Catalunya), mathematicians (Centre de visió per Computador-Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona) and chemists (Institut Químic de Sarrià- Universitat Ramon Llull) as coinvestigators. He is currently a co-investigator in a transfer project for the validation of an automated real-time endoscopic image calculation system led by the Computer Vision Center (CVC-UAB). He chaired the 3rd European congress of the EABIP (European Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology) in 2015 and has been the vice president of the World Conference of Lung Cancer (WCLC)  in Barcelona.
